Hi friends!!
Today I want to talk about something that isn’t discussed nearly enough: your cortisol curve!
Most people know cortisol as the “stress hormone,” but in a balanced body, it’s so much more than that. Cortisol plays a key role in your daily energy rhythm. It’s meant to follow a natural curve:
High in the morning to wake you up and give you energy
Slowly tapering off during the day
Low in the evening to help you relax, digest, and sleep
But here’s the problem: in today’s world of scrolling, coffee on an empty stomach, skipping meals, chronic stress, most of us are totally off-curve!
And when your cortisol is out of sync, your other hormones suffer too- especially estrogen, progesterone, thyroid hormones, and insulin. So yes, your cortisol rhythm matters big time for hormone balance.
Signs Your Cortisol Curve Is Off
If any of these feel familiar, your rhythm might need a reset:
You wake up feeling groggy, even after 8 hours
You crash mid-afternoon, then get wired at night
You feel puffy in the face or belly, even if your diet is clean
You’re sensitive to light, sound, or stress
You’re doing all the “right things” and still not seeing results
What’s Actually Happening?
Depending on your symptoms, your cortisol curve might fall into one of three categories:
1. Flatlined Curve
Cortisol stays low all day. You feel exhausted, foggy, and like your body’s dragging bricks.
2. Inverted Curve
Cortisol is low in the morning and spikes at night. You feel groggy during the day and anxious or wired before bed.
3. Rollercoaster Curve
Cortisol jumps up and down throughout the day (hello, energy crashes, mood swings, and unpredictable hunger)!
