Happy Sunday friends! I am here with an important list of my tried and true holistic remedies for you guys, because some nasty bugs are going around and I know none of you guys have time to be sick.
This Friday, I woke up not feeling my greatest and heard that the stomach flu was going around, so I knew exactly what to do. As a girl with emetophobia, I don’t take this stuff lightly and will do near anything to not throw up. Luckily, I have a toolbox that never fails me that would be unfair for me not to share!
One of the key components of my healing journey was oregano oil. Any time I feel a stomach bug coming on, have been around someone sick, or ate something iffy at a restaurant, I take a few oregano oil capsules. Known for its powerful antimicrobial properties, oregano oil can help kill off pathogens and bacteria. This is step 1 of my “kill, bind” method. THESE are the capsules I take, you could also dilute oregano oil in water but when I am nauseous, that’s the last thing I want to do.
Step 2 is to “bind” the bacteria the oregano oil killed. Activated charcoal is another lifesaver during this time. Activated charcoal is highly absorbent and can help bind toxins and pathogens in the gut, aiding in their removal from the body. I took charcoal capsules as directed to help alleviate my symptoms and support my body's detoxification process. I notice the benefits of activated charcoal almost immedialty after consuming. It stops my nausea in the tracks! Just be sure not to take it with important medication or supplements as it will bind to that as well. THESE are the capsules I love and keep in my bag at all times.
A few hours after I take the charcoal, I take THIS magnesium. Magnesium is known for its ability to relax muscles, ease stomach cramps and promote bowel regularity which is the most important step in releasing the toxins.
And lastly, I supplemented with glutathione, often referred to as the body's master antioxidant. Glutathione helps protect cells from oxidative stress and supports the liver in detoxification processes which is working in over drive when your body is fighting a bug or toxin loaded.
In addition to these remedies, I followed the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and (gluten free toast) to help soothe my stomach and provide easily digestible nourishment because now is not the time for fiber. I also had lot’s of chicken salad as an easy to digest protein. My other go-to was coconut yogurt for probiotics to help replenish the good bacteria in my stomach mixed with In Sync Hormone Elixir which supports the liver and nervous system and really calmed my stomach due to the warming cinnamon and spices. These bland, low-fiber foods provide essential nutrients while giving my digestive system a chance to rest and recover. I also made sure to drink extra electrolytes, LMNT is by far my favorite!
These remedies turned which could have been a really rough weekend, into a slightly uncomfortable weekend but 1000x better than what I felt was coming on. I am traveling on Tuesday and bringing all of these tools with me, as they are tried and true and no body has time to be sick on vacation (or ever).
Hope that helped! PS I’ll be sending this weeks meal plan out on Wednesday :)
Stay healthy and happy my friends!
xx Paige
